Frank Massey: PicoScope Introduction

A clear and concise introduction to automotive oscilloscopes: from “what is a scope?” and “why use a scope?” to “what can I test?” Frank explains, in simple terms, everything you need to know.

Frank Massey: Getting started with PicoScope

In this video Frank shows you just how quick and easy it is to start using a PicoScope automotive oscilloscope. In just 11 minutes, Frank takes you from installing the software, to running simple tests and taking measurements. Frank finishes by testing the ignition primary system.

Injectors

In this video Frank demonstrates how you can quickly test your injectors using a PicoScope automotive scope. By simulating a faulty injector, Frank shows you how to tell if there is a problem or not, just by looking at the waveform displayed on your PC.

CAN bus

CAN bus is becoming increasingly common on today’s vehicles. In this video Frank demonstrates the power of the PicoScope automotive oscilloscope, including the advanced zoom feature that lets you see every detail of the CAN bus waveform.

Air mass meter and lambda sensors

Watch as Frank uses a mixture of theory and practical demonstrations to explain and test air mass meter and lambda (oxygen) sensors.

Testing Coil-on-plug ignition

Frank Massey is one of the UK’s leading vehicle diagnostic experts. In this video Frank shows how to use PicoScope to test a coil–on–plug ignition system.

Air Mass Meter Evaluation

This video shows how PicoScope can be used to evaluate an air mass meter. First a good air mass meter on a Ford Mondeo 2.0 is tested, then an air leak is simulated to show the effect on the air mass meter and the performance of the engine.

Using a PicoScope to analyse voltage spikes in an automotive relay.

Apprentices use a two-channel PicoScope to investigate the behaviour of a standard 12 V, 30 A automotive relay as it is switched off. Observing a significant voltage spike in the energising circuit each time the relay is de-energised.

Review

In this final video Frank gives his closing thoughts on the PicoScope automotive oscilloscope, what’s the best PC to use with the scope, and details of just what other tests the scope can be used for.
